Finance Minister  Arun Jaitley will embark on a 10-day  US visit beginning June 16 during which he will meet Treasury Secretary, foreign institutional investors and industry leaders.

He will travel to New York, Washington and San Francisco during the visit ending on June 25, sources said.

In Washington, he is scheduled to meet US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, while in San Francisco he will hold a round-table discussion with the members of US-India Business Council, the sources said.

Having opened up several sectors to foreign investment, India has been projecting itself as a favourable destination for attracting foreign funds.

The government has relaxed FDI norms in various sectors, including insurance, railways and medical devices, to boost FDI in the country.

Foreign fund flows grew 27 per cent to USD 30.93 billion last fiscal as against USD 24.29 billion in 2013-14.

India received USD 1.82 billion in FDI from the US in 2014-15.

Jaitley is expected to highlight various initiatives of the NDA government, which came to power last year, to attract foreign investments into the country.

Among various initiatives is the "Make in India"programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government expects  foreign investors to support the initiative and bring in billions of dollars in FDI into the country.

That apart, Jaitley has been assuring investors of a non- adversarial tax regime, saying that the government has no intention to tax people retrospectively and will make it easier to do business in the country.

Overwhelming number of Indian-Americans to attend Narendra Modi

Nearly 30,000 people had registered for the event to be held at Madison Square Garden to honour Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The final list of attendees was decided by lottery . More than two third of the Indian -Americans attending the event will be from New York and New Jersey. Prime Minister Narendra Modi"s address to the Indian community at a grand public reception at New York"s Madison Square Garden on September 28 will be beamed live on giant screens at the city"s iconic Times Square.

With no more tickets available for the event at the huge multi-purpose indoor arena in Midtown Manhattan with a capacity of over 20,000, New Yorkers would be able to watch it in the heart of the city at Times Square.

The Indian American Community Foundation (IACF), organizer of the mega event, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Times Square Alliance for the live telecast.

PM Modi"s speech, which will be delivered in Hindi, will carry English subtitles. For the audio, people can either dial a toll free number to listen to the speech live or download an app on their smartphones.

The newly formed Indian-American Community Foundation( IACF) created for the purpose in New Jersey is hosting the event with support of more than 400 community organizations and prominent individuals in close cooperation with Consulate in New York, Embassy in Washington and State department, local authorities in a budget of less than USD 2million.

According to IACF spokesperson, "the phenomenal response to this event suggests that this is an important moment for the Indian diaspora."

He further elaborated by saying that "this will be the largest gathering in history to hear an Indian Prime Minister speak in America. The sheer diversity of people coming to Madison Square Garden indicates that the Indian American community sees significant promise in his leadership and an opportunity for a stronger relationship between the world"s oldest and largest democracies."

The local public transportation system will be running their weekday instead of the weekend schedule to cater to the rush of the people coming for this event. Indian-Americans from several other states of US and also from Canada will be joining this event. Admission to the venue is free but the venue and event preparation cost was collected through brochure, donations and voluntary service from community and business houses-small and medium.

IAGCC joined GOPIO and INDIA ABROAD to come out with special supplement to commemorate this historic event.
Co Chairman of the chamber is a member of the organizing committee and was chosen as part of the reception team.
